Abraham Lincoln and his law partners had one of the largest appellate practices in the state. During Lincoln's 25-year legal career, they argued more than 400 cases before the Illinois Supreme Court, many of them in this room.

William Herndon, Lincoln's last law partner, recalled that Lincoln was most successful when he had ample time to prepare for cases. He said, "He was greatest in my opinion as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Illinois. There the cases were never hurried."
