25. Miller-Kelso Home

Joshua Miller and John (Jack) Kelso, who married sisters, shared a "dogtrot" home on the west end of the village. Kelso's love of Shakespeare and Burns may have influenced Abraham Lincoln, whose appreciation of these authors lasted a lifetime. Lincoln also boarded briefly with the Kelsos.

Miller worked in New Salem as a blacksmith and wheelwright, forging ox shoes, horse shoes, implements and household goods.
