Milwaukee, WI -- Allen C. Guelzo, the Director of Civil War Era Studies and the Henry R. Luce Professor of the Civil War Era at Gettysburg College, is one of three recipients of the 2018 Bradley Prizes. The honor recognizes individuals of extraordinary talent, whose accomplishments reflect The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation's mission to restore, strengthen and protect the principles and institutions of American exceptionalism. Professor Guelzo will receive the award at the 15th annual Bradley Prizes ceremony on Tuesday, May 15th at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

"Dr. Allen Guelzo is one of the country's preeminent Civil War era historians and a leading authority on President Lincoln," said Richard Graber, President and CEO of the Bradley Foundation. "His contributions have shaped important debate, thought and research on one of the most critical periods of American history. The Bradley Foundation is proud to award a Bradley Prize to Dr. Guelzo, a scholar who has served his field with great distinction."

Named one of Power Line's 100 "Top Professors" in America, Guelzo is an award-winning author who has written for and appeared on numerous media outlets. Among his many honors are a 2010 Grammy Award nomination for his part in a BBC Audio production of the entirety of the Lincoln-Douglas debates (with David Strathairn and Richard Dreyfuss); the Lincoln Award of the Union League of Philadelphia; and he is a three-time winner of the Lincoln Prize for his books about Abraham Lincoln. His Gettysburg: The Last Invasion was a 2013 New York Times best-seller. Guelzo is a former member of the National Council of the National Endowment for the Humanities and a Fellow of the Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History at Harvard University.

Guelzo holds a B.S. from Cairn University, an M.Div. from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently serving as the Wm. L. Garwood Visiting Professor in the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University for 2017-2018.

This year's award winners were chosen by the Bradley Prizes Selection Committee, a group of notable leaders in various fields, after careful review of nearly 200 nominations. Each award carries a stipend of $250,000.
