Old Senate Chamber

When Lincoln served in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1840s, the Senate still met in this chamber. Senators used this room from 1810 to 1859 before the new, larger chamber was completed. The U.S. Supreme Court occupied the space during Lincoln's presidency, moving to its present quarters across the street in 1935. The room was restored to its 1850s appearance for the nation's bicentennial. You will find it just north of the Rotunda on the second floor.
