Schwartz Statue in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

This full-size bronze work depicts President Lincoln on the day of his famous speech at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in 1863. The dedication was held several months after the summer's intense battle which claimed thousands of lives.

Appropriately, the sculpture was dedicated on November 19, 2009, the 146th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. It is one of several sculptural images of the president you may see in Gettysburg today.

Designed by Ivan Schwartz of New York, the sculpture and the nearby landscaping is the gift of Robert H. Smith. You will find it outside the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. The president's approachable pose beckons to the park's many visitors, who cannot resist flocking around it and taking pictures.
